WEDNESDAY
Peter:
After meeting and pouring over their results from
the first year last evening, participants enter their
second year with hope and enthusiasm. They ‘know’
exactly how they are going to embrace their challenge.
However, as Ron would say, using his favourite quote
from Mike Tyson, “Everybody has a plan until
they get hit!”
Stephanie:
Maxx Factor has received positive results from the
previous day’s activities and the team is pumped.
The conga line begins as soon as they enter the room
and the energy continues unabated into their planning
period. The room is abuzz with activity for the duration
of the afternoon. I watch the team members rush from
area to area, having hurried conversations and remaining
focused on their game plan as determined by the Big
Wigs. I am privy to the information that there is
a direction this team must take if they hope to maintain
their positive results at the end of this day. So
I watch and wait…
Ron:
As Mike Tyson said, “Everybody has a plan until
they get hit!” Year Two of the simulation provides
some tremendous challenges for participants. It is
heartening to see the progress groups of people can
make when they come together, share information and
perspectives, and learn to reach agreement. This foundation
does get tested in the second sim year, and provides
a rich foundation for insights and deep learning in
the debrief.
Peter:
People realize very quickly that they need to share
deeply their experience; to demonstrate empathy for
the experiences of other people and to seek ways with
them to close the gaps between their perception and
that of others.
