The Simulation In this two-day simulation, you and your fellow participants will experience firsthand the frustrations and difficulties of toiling in a traditionally designed and managed business. But you will also learn how to streamline and enhance your work processes, technologies, policies and structures to transform a sluggish, ineffective organization into focused, results-producing teams. When the simulation is complete, you and your team will triumph in your successful redesign. You will do more with less and do it better. On the first day, you and the members of your team will form a simulated company with a traditional culture, structure and systems. Then you’ll race against the clock trying to achieve your company’s mission. Following this first phase of the simulation, you will be led through a session to learn how to reengineer your work activities and information processes to save time and money and to serve your customers better. Then you’ll put your (new) company to the test. The Challenge The group is then divided into two new teams forming two new companies. You are asked to accomplish an even more ambitious and difficult mission: increase your company’s effectiveness while using only half the human resources of the earlier effort. The Results The results of your reengineering are startling and dramatic. They reveal how your team members, once they are focused on fresh ideas of work flow, integrated information systems, working relationships, customer contracting and fundamental reengineering principles, can apply the lessons learned to their own work situations with dramatic, real-world, profitable results. The Applications The second day ends after you and your team contract on specific practices you can put into effect immediately back at your real workplace. You develop action plans for radical and permanent improvements to your organization’s existing processes, products and services–improvements that will save your organization time and money while improving customer service.
